Overview

MacroPoyo is a project that I began on Twitter in 2020, focusing on gaming, pop culture, and social media as a whole. It has expanded to presences on Twitch (where I regularly livestream), TikTok, and Instagram. This is my personal passion project where all of my loves intersect.

Goals

Here are my ongoing goals for my online presence:

  • Increase follower counts on Twitter and Twitch (400 and 200, respectively, with new goals being established at each milestone)

  • Maintain professional/hobbyist relationships with other streamers and influencers through Discord, Twitter and Twitch.

  • Maintain and grow viewers on Twitch (Currently an average of 5, but I want to see more growth)

  • Create a safe, inclusive community through my online presence, with great engagement and regular posting

The Story Thus Far

Getting Started on Twitter

When I started my account, I began in the Resident Evil fandom section of Twitter. I played through the series, shared my thoughts, love, and nostalgia for the older games, and connected with other fans through that. Aside from that, I:

  • Used my graphic design skills to make memes and designs

  • Shared my own opinions on various things, which sparked discussion, leading to further engagement

  • Built myself up to over 300 followers, with some of my posts reaching high levels of engagement. My most recent meme post at the time of writing has reached over 16,000 likes, making it my most viral post of all time

Streaming on Twitch

I started seriously streaming on Twitch in November 2021 after I built my first gaming PC. I utilized my audience from Twitter to gather viewers and harnessed the power of tags and catchy titles to draw people in. I have grown a small community on Twitch through networking and discoverability optimizations, and I achieved affiliate status in April of 2022.

From there, I was able to have 10-14 regular monthly subscribers to my content. I also collaborated with an artist who views my content to create emotes to use on Twitch. Right now, my content focuses on speedrunning, casual gameplay, and RPG playthroughs. My chat usually consists of returning followers/subscribers, and people who discover my content through search and recommendations from other streamers.

Creating a Discord Community

I created my own Discord server in April 2022 and joined other related Discord servers to chat, form relationships, and provide value to my community and the communities of others. I’m always looking to see how I can improve the experience for those who consume my content. My current Discord is growing slowly, but I’m expecting it to grow along with my Twitch following.

Passion for Inclusivity

As a bisexual, neurodivergent cisgender man, I want to create a space that is safe for anyone of any race, creed, gender, and/or physical ability. I want people to laugh, make jokes, have fun, and feel comfortable being themselves, while being good to others. I also want them to share their interests and experiences so I can expand my own mindset and gain a better understanding of the world. I was taught to leave things better than I found it, and for me, the internet is no exception.

Results

This is only a taste of what I’m planning to do with my personal social media presence. I have a lot of love for social media, pop culture, and video games, so this is something that I plan to maintain for as long as humanly possible. It allows me to understand the ever-changing social media landscape while creating genuine connections and sharing what I love with other people.
